20/06/2018
Voka Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen

As everyone knows, Corporate Social Responsibility is a common theme in the daily activities of our group of companies. Together, we focus on the 5 Ps: Peace, People, Planet, Prosperity and Partnership. These are the 5 development domains of the United Nations.
To receive the VOKA Charter for Corporate Social Responsibility as a company, you have to demonstrate that you realise all kinds of actions that benefit people, the environment and society. The so-called Sustainable Development Goals.

PEOPLE

BRAVO PROJECT

BRAVO stands for Bewegen, Rookstop, Voeding and Ontspanning (Movement, Stop smoking, Nutrition and Relaxation). The organised activities are always under professional supervision. In the context of Movement, for example, the company makes E-bikes available to the employees for commuting.

ERGONOMICS

When setting up workplaces for both employees and workers, we take account of the ergonomics of the workplace.

IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

We have also set up working groups with our workers, under the guidance of an external company, to formulate, implement and evaluate projects that improve efficiency, for example, at shift changes.

CHARITIES

We organise the Bekina Boots Run for the benefit of To Walk Again. Through the Bekina Boots business unit, we donate boots to refugees, for example, in Dunkirk via GaMCare, ...

PLANET

CLIMATE

We also pay attention to nature around us. We support the pruning of trees, for example, and have created a green zone. In addition, the polyurethane boots of the Bekina Boots brand last three times longer than rubber or PVC boots, and are therefore more durable. As a result, our users ultimately produce less waste. We also pass on this message to our distributors and end customers. In this way, we try to play our part in contributing towards the awareness of sustainable entrepreneurship.

C2C BEKINA INDURUB

Bekina Indurub wants to offer its customers Cradle to Cradle-certified products on the basis of rigid and flexible plastics. In recent years, the company has strongly focused on reducing its ecological footprint, among other things by avoiding the creation of waste water and paying special attention to renewable energy.

PROSPERITY

CREATION OF PROSPERITY

Bekina provides local employment, and we contribute to the further development of the local economy and, consequently, the creation of prosperity.
We received the VOKA Charter from the hands of Mr. Jozef Dauwe, Provincial Executive of East Flanders, on 20 June 2018.
We are looking forward to the 2018 edition of the VOKA Charter for Corporate Social Responsibility!

Investment of 1.2 mio EURO in new machine

14/09/2017

Big news! Bekina® Boots invested 1.2 million euros in a brand new machine for making safety boots. This way, the production capacity is raised with 25%. As from 18 September 2017 onwards this injection machine will be fully operational. Bekina® Boots is ready to conquer the world.

"Thanks to this investment in modern automatisation, we will be more strategically placed to meet the growing worldwide demand for our boots. This investment will help us to reach our long term goals", says CEO Peter Bauwens. "Next to the fact that we are increasing the production capacity with 25%, we are also significantly reducing our lead times and are giving our general efficiency an extra power boost."

MORE EFFICIENCY AND FLEXIBILITY

Peter Welvaert, Project Manager Technology: "This new machine is a major investment in the latest technology on offer in our industry. It enables us to produce different boot types in one production run. This way our production planning becomes more flexible. Additionaly, we invested in extra material tanks which are directly connected to this machine. From now on boots with different compounds can be produced on one machine in the same production run."

SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY

What was originally the job of a production operator, pulling the boot off the mould, is now done by a robot arm. Another benefit of using robot arms is that they use 80% less solvents than a machine operator does. The use of these solvents is required to smoothly slip the boots of the mould. Dries Scheerlinck, Production Manager: "The implementation of robot arms will add ergonomics to the job of machine operators: there is less physical strain on the job and it is a lot healthier to them as well. All our operators will be retrained to use this new machine. They are very positive about this new evolution, because their job will shift from manual work to technical work."

CEO Peter Bauwens concludes: " Looking to the future, we believe that all manufacturers should invest in new automatisation technologies to stay competitive and profitable. Next to that, we keep investing in skilled workforce who are interested in learning new working methods.

With the inauguration of their new machine, Bekina® Boots makes a clear statement that they are ready to reach their annual 10% growth rate. This was also noticed by the Flemish government who nominated Bekina® Boots as one of the three strongest export companies in the whole of Flanders.

voka jubilee

Donation of boots to the refugees

12/01/2016
Bekina® Boots vluchtelingen Duinkerke

“You can see that people are getting stuck in the mud with their shoes. The people have no boots”, says Dirk Vandervelden, a volunteer at the refugee camp in Duinkerke. That’s why Bekina® Boots decided, in cooporation with more than 100 volunteers from the non-profit organization GaM Care, to donate 1500 pairs of boots to this refugee camp on Wednesday, 13th January 2016.

“At Bekina® Boots, we always had much attention to sustainable and ethical entrepreneurship. Because of the high need of boots in the refugee camp, we couldn’t wait any longer”, says Peter Bauwens, CEO of Bekina® Boots. “It’s a horrible situation at the camp. The faster the boots will be there, the better.”

Wednesday afternoon, 100 volunteers will start to distribute the 1500 pairs of boots in the camp. This will happen from a central collection point or personally in the tents of the seriously ill, single mothers with young children or pregnant women.

Update: The 1,500 pairs of boots are distributed in the camp. Thanks to all volunteers who made this happen. Together we can make a difference.

These boots are made for milking

17/11/2015

Producers lavish a lot of care and attention of their cows' hooves. But how good are they at looking after their own feet? We spoke to two physiotherapists and a boot manufacturer to find out why personal 'hoof care' is so vital.

Testimonial Darren McMurran, Banbridge, Co Down.

320-cow herd, currently expanding to 500 cow, averaging 12.100 litres.

"Boot comfort is really important to me, particularly since I easily spend more than eight hours every day wearing them. I look for a pair of boots that give good ankle and leg support, and they've got to be light - they can't be clumsy. And for safety reasons they have to have good tread, to offer plenty of grip."

"As one of the 2014 NMR/RABDF Gold Cup finalists, I received a complementary pair of Bekina® Boots and, compared with some other brands available, these tick all the boxes."
